Offensive Rating

Also: ORTG · OffRtg

Points scored per 100 possessions. Standardizes scoring across different paces.

Definition

Offensive rating measures how efficiently a team (or lineup) scores, independent of how fast they play. By normalizing to 100 possessions, it lets you compare offensive output between a fast team and a slow team fairly.

Formula

ORTG = (Points × 100) / Possessions

Example

An ORTG of 120+ is elite (top 3 in league); 115 is above average; 110 is middle of the pack; 105 or lower is a struggling offense.

Why it matters for research

When researching a matchup, ORTG tells you which offense has a structural edge. An elite ORTG against a weak defense typically means higher scoring props for that team's main players.
