Bears WR/TE Projections 2026: Why ESPN, CBS & Sleeper Disagree
Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Colston Loveland all get "WR1" treatment somewhere; just not from the same source. Here's what each model assumes about Chicago's post-D.J. Moore passing game.
THE BEARS PROJECTION DISAGREEMENT REPORT
The Bears are not a consensus-projection story. They are a disagreement story. ESPN projects Rome Odunze as Chicago's top receiving scorer. CBS puts Colston Loveland first. Sleeper's current scoring output also favors Loveland, with Luther Burden III narrowly ahead of Odunze.
That difference matters because the inputs are plausible in different ways: Odunze has the strongest established route-volume case, Burden supplied the clearest after-catch efficiency signal, and Loveland finished his rookie year with a growing pass-game role. The useful question is not who a model says is "best." It is what the model assumes about a young offense after Chicago traded D.J. Moore to Buffalo in March.
How the models differ
Each outlet's projections below preserve that outlet's own scoring order, since a direct cross-site point comparison isn't meaningful. Sleeper currently uses 18 projected games; ESPN and CBS use 17. Their scoring and bonus rules are not necessarily identical.
ESPN projects Rome Odunze for 17 games, 59 receptions, 1,029 yards, and 8 touchdowns; Luther Burden III for 17 games, 75 receptions, 937 yards, and 5 touchdowns; and Colston Loveland for 17 games, 80 receptions, 897 yards, and 6 touchdowns. In ESPN's own internal scoring order, that ranks Odunze first (213 points), with Burden and Loveland tied (206).
Sleeper projects Odunze for 18 games, 62 receptions, 891 yards, and 6 touchdowns; Burden for 18 games, 72 receptions, 886 yards, and 6 touchdowns; and Loveland for 18 games, 80 receptions, 905 yards, and 6 touchdowns. In Sleeper's own scoring output, that ranks Loveland first (206.9 points), Burden second (202.7), and Odunze third (187.7).
CBS projects Odunze for 17 games, 66 receptions, 966 yards, and 9 touchdowns; Burden for 17 games, 73 receptions, 1,009 yards, and 6 touchdowns; and Loveland for 17 games, 81 receptions, 1,002 yards, and 8 touchdowns. In CBS's own scoring order, that ranks Loveland first (227.6 points), Odunze second (218.5), and Burden third (213.6).

ESPN is the lowest on Odunze's reception total at 59. Sleeper projects 62, and CBS projects 66. That is a small but important correction to the usual shorthand: Sleeper is not the most conservative Odunze-reception model. Its distinction is that it ranks Loveland and Burden ahead of him in its own scoring output.
The broader split is clear. ESPN gives Odunze and Loveland the same 118-target forecast but more yards and touchdowns to Odunze. CBS gives Odunze the most targets but makes Loveland its top scorer through an 81-catch, eight-touchdown line. Sleeper puts Loveland first by catches and scoring output, then Burden, then Odunze.
The 2025 regular-season baseline
Chicago's 2025 regular-season totals were crowded, but the playing-time context was not identical: Odunze produced 661 yards in 12 games, while Loveland posted 713 in 16 and Burden 652 in 15. Odunze missed the final five regular-season games with a foot injury, so total yardage alone understates his per-game case.
In the 2025 regular season (all figures are regular season only; targets, receiving, and YAC come from NFL/Bears statistical records, with YAC per reception calculated from those totals): Rome Odunze played 12 games with 90 targets, 44 receptions, 661 yards, 55.1 yards per game, 214 yards after catch, and 4.9 YAC per reception. Luther Burden III played 15 games with 60 targets, 47 receptions, 652 yards, 43.5 yards per game, 334 yards after catch, and 7.1 YAC per reception. Colston Loveland played 16 games with 82 targets, 58 receptions, 713 yards, 44.6 yards per game, 250 yards after catch, and 4.3 YAC per reception.
This context makes the three cases easier to see. Odunze had the highest receiving-yards-per-game figure and the most targets, but did not have a full season. Burden produced the most YAC and YAC per reception despite the smallest target total. Loveland led the group in catches and receiving yards across his 16 games.
What each model is assuming
ESPN: Odunze converts route volume into the lead role. ESPN's forecast puts Odunze on top by fantasy output, yards, and touchdowns. It effectively assumes that a healthier, full-season version of his route and air-yards role will remain central even as Burden and Loveland command meaningful volume. Its 118 targets for Odunze and Loveland also present a balanced offense rather than a one-player target monopoly.
Sleeper: Loveland's catch volume and Burden's efficiency matter most. Sleeper places Loveland first and Burden second in its own scoring output. Loveland receives the highest catch and yardage line in the group, while Burden gets 72 catches and a nearly identical yardage forecast to Odunze. Because the feed uses 18 games, the raw totals should not be placed beside the 17-game forecasts without normalization; the order inside Sleeper is the useful comparison.
CBS: a high-volume tight end can coexist with a high-target wideout. CBS projects the highest target total for Odunze, the highest yardage line for Burden, and the top scoring output for Loveland. That is not a contradiction. It is a model of a distributed attack in which Odunze carries a downfield and touchdown-heavy role, Burden creates yardage efficiently, and Loveland accumulates catches and scoring chances.
Routes, YAC, and separation: useful signals, not a universal ranking
Route participation helps explain the different forecasts, but the published samples are not interchangeable. Odunze's 79% route rate was reported for his healthy-game sample. Burden's 44% was a season-long figure. Loveland's 59.8% was a regular-season figure. Those numbers describe different periods and roles; they should not be stacked into a single player ranking.
The same caution applies to separation. Providers use proprietary definitions, thresholds, and tracking inputs. The cleanest public comparison here is directional: Burden's 7.1 YAC per reception was the strongest after-catch result of the trio; Odunze carried the largest target total and highest yards-per-game figure; Loveland paired team-leading yardage with growing route involvement. Route participation and separation metrics are provider-specific and sample-sensitive; they should explain model disagreement, not serve as a universal ranking.
The Takeaway
The Bears' receiving hierarchy is unsettled because three reasonable models can start from the same 2025 evidence and reach different answers. ESPN leans toward Odunze's established route-volume case. Sleeper rewards Loveland's catch profile and Burden's efficiency. CBS sees enough overall passing volume for Loveland to lead in scoring even while Odunze leads in targets.
That disagreement is the story. It is not a recommendation to favor one player. It is a map of the assumptions that need to be monitored once training camp and the 2026 season supply a clearer answer.
